Golden Girls

Hello Beautiful Readers,

It's time for another Hot Mess Haller Moment and this one is a double feature because my husband, Mike, and I were BOTH hot messes that night.

So sit back, relax, and picture yourself on the wicker couch with the Golden Girls as I tell you my best Sophia Petrillo story.

Picture it: Hartford, Connecticut. September 2026.

I'm sitting next to my bestie, Deb, at a mock jury trial. We're deciding whether a company should be held responsible for a cyclist's death involving an AI-driven car. The fate of this fictional defendant is in our hands!

Then my phone starts buzzing. It's Mike.

I can't answer. I'm in court, for heavens' sake! So I text him.

Me: We’re in the show. Can I call you back?

Mike: I'm locked out of the house.

Me: Try the garage code.

Mike: It's not working.

We go back and forth. I'm convinced he's doing something wrong or the keypad is having a moment. Surely, it's not that complicated!

The trial ends. The jury delivers its verdict, the defendant is guilty, the audience applauds, and I finally call Mike.

Now, let me back up a few hours. Mike had gone mountain biking with friends and then to dinner with his father. During that time, Deb and I grabbed dinner and then went to the show. We both left through the garage, closed the door, and went merrily on our way. Neither of us thought about needing house keys. Why would we? We ALWAYS use the garage!

I told Mike I'd be home in 30 minutes and suggested he walk to the nearby liquor store, grab a beer, and enjoy the gorgeous evening while he waited.

When Deb and I pulled into my driveway, I confidently marched up to the keypad, fully expecting to punch in our four-digit code and magically unlock the door.

Clearly, I had this under control. Except... I didn't. I tried the code. I tried it again. I tried resetting the keypad. NOTHING.

So there we were, two grown adults locked out of our own home.

I turned to Mike. “We're locked out of our own house!”

“I know,” he said.

“What are we going to do?” I asked.

And then I remembered: I'd left the bathroom window open because it was such a beautiful day. I walked up the front porch steps and looked up to the second floor. The window was open!

“I can get through that,” I announced.

Mike looked at me like I'd lost my mind. “No, you're not!”

“Yes, I am. I just need a ladder.”

Cue the back-and-forth. No, you're not! Yes, I am! NO, YOU'RE NOT!

Meanwhile, Deb was laughing at the two of us because, honestly, we were ridiculous. Finally, Mike went next door to ask our neighbor Jim for a ladder. And that's when things got REALLY interesting.

Watch the videos below to see what happened the night Mike and I broke into our own house!

Wendy ❤️

p.s. our neighbor now has a copy of our house keys 😂

Mike may have questioned my plan,

but let's just say... being short and scrappy paid off! 🤣

(Thank you, Deb, for capturing this beautiful

and hilarious hot mess moment)
